Winter Outdoor Headshots For A Busy Nonprofit Professional Business Portrait

Winter Outdoor Headshots For A Busy Nonprofit Professional Business Portrait

A busy nonprofit professionals business portraits done outside against a wintery background that prove you can look great no matter where or what the conditions are as long as you have the right photographer.

Confident, Approachable, Professional Environmental Portraits

One of the many ways that I market my business is I go out and network in person. I belong to various small networking groups, and I've considered belonging to larger ones. I met Christine through a group called Mercer County Woman and then again at a  NJSBDC network event. I followed up with an email after she expressed an interest and before long, we had a scheduled photoshoot. Christine had a specific look and feel for her business and branding. Her business has two target markets, one for families with children and another for adults and the corporate world. What she needed on this day was for the latter.

She wanted the shoot to be in her home, because this is where she works. To portray the woman of her profession who loves what she does. Confident, approachable, and professional.

Here is her website: Sleepy Tots

We went through her closet, picked out a few items of clothing and jewelry that would look the best on her and her personality. Also her branding. While she was getting changed, my husband and I moved furniture around and got some items to dress the room where she would be sitting. The room had lots of natural light, no need to bring in any of my strobes.

As you can see by these cell phone pictures, we tried some with her and the laptop, books, coffee mug, writing on a notebook. But none of these that were part of our original plan were working. So we ditched it all.

After that, she wanted to try something with the white wall. So I had her stand up, gave some direction(that gave us all the case of the giggles a few times!) while my husband held a reflector underneath her.

During her quick change, we re-arranged the furniture again and started to shoot when she was ready.

Okay, normally I do not do photoshoots in barefeet like this. However....this day got really hot, moving stuff around, and yes...I sometimes climb on furniture and I didn't want to do any damage to it. So with her permission, I took my shoes and socks off.

Next we went outside for outdoor headshots. I love doing a more cinematic portrait style headshot with my lights, these can be done outdoors or indoors as long as there is enough room to achieve the effect that I'm looking for. That day, the breeze was in our favor and she totally rocked it! Relaxed, confident and happy!

Christine, thank you so much for letting us into your home. We had so much fun! I'll be seeing you soon :)

Summertime's Here, Perfect for Outdoor Headshots!

The past couple of months have been a bit hectic for me. Last year I booked 2 weddings for the month of May of 2016, and in between those weddings I have been busy with my family, networking, a portrait session, and testing some lighting techniques. Also school’s out so those of use with children you know how things are now. Keeping our kids busy while working and having fun ourselves too. I no longer do weddings like that anymore, but they were wonderful and beautiful! I have been having fun with using a cinematic type of technique for my clients that I can use for their headshot. We can shoot outdoors, almost anywhere and have our normal fun time but the effect is just gorgeous. I was just on Princeton University campus last week with a client and we did a combination of this a natural light for her’s and I can’t wait to show you them!

The following were kind enough to sit for me after a networking breakfast meeting at Fedora’s Cafe in Lawrenceville, NJ. Please take a look at the the links for their businesses and let them know that you saw their headshot on my site. Thank you :) Karen Hodges Miller-PUBLISHER-Open Door Publications
